When our friend John Massey of Ashwood Nurseries in the UK told us about this plant and said that it was one of the most exciting new hellebores he had seen in years, well, we got excited. Johnknows hellebores! Bred at RD Plants by Rodney Davey and Lynda Windsor. The plants here are really lovely and we are as excited as John about them. The plant is sterile, long blooming and the flowers as well as the heavily marked new foliage is great in bouquets. (As with all hellebores, stems cut when the majority of the flowers are open last longest.)
This product is sold in a 1 quart pot.

I ordered some of these to plant in fall. They arrived well packed, large enough with a good root system and very healthy. I'll see after the snow how hardy and vigorous they are.

I just opened my order from Pine Knot Farms this evening. The packing was very well done and other than a little potting soil in the bottom of the box, the plants arrived in excellent condition. The plants were a good size for the price. The communication from the owners was excellent and I received a quick and detailed response to a question I had about soil preparation. I would highly recommend Pine Knot Farms for great Hellebores at a fair price!

I bought this and other varieties of helleborus from Pine Knot Farms earlier in 2015. I wouldn't have bothered to write this review, but, having read the first review for this plant, I thought some of you might be interested in another opinion. In my case, I thought the packaging was some of the best I've seen for an on-line nursery, and I've ordered from lots. All the ones that I ordered arrived in good shape and with no problems, such as broken stems. I thought the price was fair, and, unlike the lady writing the first review, I'm lucky if I can find any helleborus in my area that cost less than $25 per pot. Admittedly, that would be a plant that is probably double the size of what I got from Pine Knot, but, personally, I would rather have a smaller plant at a better price, so I could order more plants. This is a long-lived perennial, and I figure it is easier to transplant successfully a smaller plant, and, if successfully transplanted, in years to come, it will get larger. I think all of the ones that I ordered bloomed, admittedly not profusely, but, again, this was a smaller plant. I am really anxious to see how they will do next spring when they've been in the ground for a year and am optimistic that I will have these lovely plants for years to come.

Poor shipping, Weak plant. Not a good value for the price. Would not recommend.
I'm sorry I don't have time to write a review for each one of these plants, but I can tell you that I wouldn't give any one of them more than two stars, and the headline for each would be "Disappointed". For the prices you charged, I expected robust, healthy plants with a half dozen stems or more, not the puny one or two stems that arrived. I didn't expect blooms, and I wasn't disappointed in that regard, but the blooms that did arrive all look the same. I seriously think that all of the plants with blooms are from your generic group of Hellebores, not the specific plants I wanted. As it turns out, I've discovered that I can actually find nearly all of these locally, mostly at nearly half to one third the price. So, I certainly won't be ordering from you again.
The worst part of the deal was the shipping, however, and I think you should have a long talk with UPS. The box arrived squashed on all four sides, with dirt falling out, cracked pots, and broken stems (your packaging doesn't do much to protect those), and by the time it arrived on my porch, it looked like the driver had kicked it down the driveway. Of course, I know that the plants will be fine as soon as they are planted and given some care, but the form of their arrival was less than pleasing.
So, that's what I would have to say.

Deer Kathleen,
I am very sorry that you are disappointed with your plants and the packaging. Dick has tried very hard to develop a method of packing boxes so the trials of shipping do not completely destroy the contents. Usually it is successful, but there are always the ones that are not so lucky.
We will be happy to replace any plants that were damaged or unsatisfactory.
Regarding the colour on the O'Byrne Northwest Garden Nursery plants that you say all look the same, please remember that our season is at least a month or so ahead of yours. These hellebores began to bloom in February and what you are seeing is the dried or drying remnants of the flowers. Ernie and Marietta O'Bryne work very hard to make sure their plants are as close to the colours shown on their photos as possible. That's why we buy and resell their plants.
Please let me know what you would like for us to do to make you happy.
regards,
Judith
