Helleborus x hybridus Lenten Roses
Lenten Rose is the
common name for the group of plants that were formerly called H.
orientalis or H.
orientalis hybrids. They offer flowers in a wide range of colours and
foliage forms. Plants sold by colour must have bloomed and been
marked so if we sell you a white flowering plant we can guarantee
the flowers will be white. H.
hybridus foliage
We have been working on our Pine Knot Strain since the early 1980's
with serious breeding efforts beginning in the early 1990's. We have
traveled to the UK and Europe over 15 times to bring back new plants to
increase and better our stock.
We also trade seed with breeders all over the world, so we feel that
our stock plants represent some of the best plants anywhere. We select
stock not only for colour, but also for vigor, for producing numerous
outward facing flowers and for unusual and attractive foliage.
Much has been said about producing clonal forms of Helleborus xhybridus
from tissue culture, but there has been very little success until
recently,
although other forms like H. x ericsmithii have been
available for the last few years.
