tender species from Majorca is not hardy in my zone 7 garden, but
usually blooms the first year. The plum-pink backs of creamy
or green flowers, blue gray foliage heavily veined in white make it
a great container plant.

the Heuger Nursery we saw the largest collection of niger forms

This is an excellent form grown from
plants we purchased at Robin and Sue White's wonderful Blackthorn
Nursery. The stems, petioles and often the anthers are an enchanting
ripe berry rose, and the flowers turn pink very shortly after
opening.
